Employment Spotlight: Brett Sharp, Power Station Operator Maintainer (PSOM)

Meet one of our incredible team members, a dedicated Power Station Operator Maintainer (PSOM) who has been with Zenith Energy for an exciting 12 months. Working at the Kathleen Valley hybrid station, Brett’s role involves overseeing a cutting-edge mix of technologies, from gas and diesel engines to wind turbines, a solar farm, a battery system, and LNG facility. 

“The innovative field of hybrid power stations was what first attracted me to Zenith Energy, and the experience has exceeded my expectations. The company’s fantastic culture stood out immediately, and I’ve felt that warmth and camaraderie since day one. Working alongside amazing colleagues who share a commitment to excellence has only deepened my respect for Zenith.” 

Each day at Kathleen Valley starts early, with a unique opportunity to observe gas engines before the solar farm powers up for the day. The team kicks off with a productive toolbox meeting, followed by daily readings, checks, and preventive maintenance tasks during their two-week swing. “It’s a fulfilling routine that sets the tone for a successful day.” 

Life at the camp is just as rewarding. Kathleen Valley boasts one of the best camps in mining, complete with superb food that adds to the positive atmosphere. 

Reflecting on his journey at Zenith, one of the proudest moments was being part of the final six months of construction and commissioning at Kathleen Valley. “Seeing the station transform into a fully operational facility was an exhilarating experience that demonstrated the power of teamwork and dedication.” 

Zenith Energy’s commitment to professional growth has been a cornerstone of this experience. “The company has invested in my development through comprehensive training courses and by empowering me with trust and responsibility. This support has allowed me to excel and grow as an operator.” 

Zenith also places a strong emphasis on work-life balance, with a well-structured 2:2 roster and access to an onsite gym. “It’s the perfect combination for maintaining physical well-being and overall morale.” 

Looking ahead, Brett is excited about the future at Zenith Energy. “I envision stepping into a leadership role and continuing to enhance my skills. As hybrid stations evolve with new technologies, I’m eager to adapt and grow with the latest innovations. The future is bright, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”

Employment Spotlight: Jamie Connolly, Mobilisation Coordinator at Zenith Energy

Since joining Zenith Energy in May 2023, Jamie Connolly has made a remarkable impact as our Mobilisation Coordinator. In her role, Jamie organises and facilitates the mobilisation of workers, clients, and contractors across our operations and projects, ensuring everyone arrives on-site ready to work. Her responsibilities have included key site visits, such as the opening of Australia’s largest off-grid wind farm and hybrid power system at Kathleen Valley—an event attended by the WA Minister for Energy, our board of directors, investors, bankers, and partners.

Reflecting on what initially drew her to Zenith, Jamie shares, “What really attracted me to Zenith was the involvement of the Chairman and the Executive team with employees—never treating us like just a number. We’re a close-knit community that genuinely looks out for one another.”

Zenith’s inclusive and growth-oriented culture has enabled Jamie to pursue her passions and develop her skills. “Zenith has a very inclusive culture that promotes learning and growth. I feel encouraged to find my passion, speak up, and upskill to move into different roles within the company,” she says.

In just nine months, Jamie received a SPARK Award in recognition of her dedication and was offered an acting senior role within her first year. This opportunity, combined with Zenith’s support in achieving a certificate in Business Management, reflects the company’s trust and confidence in her abilities. “Zenith has helped me see my potential and what I’m capable of,” she notes. “My time in the role of ‘Acting Senior’ has given me the confidence to take on future challenges and opportunities.”

Zenith Energy’s commitment to work-life balance and well-being has also been important in Jamie’s journey. “With Zenith’s flexibility in working hours and its work-from-home policy, taking time off when needed is never a problem. The support I’ve received has made it easy to ask for help and feel valued as a team member.”

Looking ahead, Jamie envisions advancing into a senior role, gaining management experience, and supporting her colleagues as a leader. “Zenith is growing and solidifying its presence in the market, and I’m excited to be part of this journey and see where my career takes me.”

Employment Spotlight: Lazarus Mazanhanga
Lead Electrical Technician at Zenith Energy

Meet Lazarus Mazanhanga, our Lead Electrical Technician, who has been with Zenith Energy for over 2 years. In his role, Lazarus is responsible for assisting with operational challenges and commissioning new generators at our power stations. He also plays a key role in providing technical support and training to the Operations and Maintenance teams.

When asked what attracted him to Zenith, Lazarus says, “Working for a renowned energy provider was an opportunity I couldn’t miss. The team at Zenith has been incredibly supportive, always willing to provide guidance and help whenever needed.”

Lazarus is proud of his involvement in the Nova Rebuild Project, where he contributed to the commissioning phase, working alongside a dedicated team to deliver a successful outcome.

Zenith Energy has supported Lazarus’s professional growth by allowing him to continue his studies while working and providing the necessary support from HR and supervisors. “The company has also shown a strong commitment to work-life balance, especially during my time on-site for extended periods.”

Looking forward, Lazarus is excited to contribute to the renewable energy shift at Zenith Energy. He envisions being part of the design and implementation of the control systems that power the future of clean energy.

Connor – Plant Mechanic Apprentice

Can you briefly describe your role and responsibilities at Zenith Energy, and how long you’ve been with the company?

I am a Plant Mechanic Apprentice, at the end of my second year with Zenith. I attend to breakdowns and help service the engines when required.

  • What initially attracted you to work for Zenith Energy, and how has your perception of the company evolved since joining?

Zenith gave me the opportunity to pursue an apprenticeship and a user-friendly roster.  From day one Zenith has been fully supportive of me. Everyone is very friendly and willing to give you a hand when you need it. If I don’t know something, all I need to do is pick up the phone and there is usually someone at the end who can help me out. It has never changed for me over the two years since I joined.

  • How would you describe the company culture at Zenith Energy, and what aspects of it do you find most appealing or challenging?

Very positive, never any negativity.

  • Can you share a specific project or achievement during your time at Zenith Energy that you are particularly proud of?

Very proud of the fact that my Superintendent allowed me to work autonomously, as an apprentice, it gives me so much more confidence knowing my bosses have faith in me to do the job.

  • In what ways has Zenith Energy supported your professional growth and development?

Just giving me the chance to become an apprentice and be part of such an experienced team, learning something new all the time.

  • How does Zenith Energy prioritise work-life balance and employee well-being?

With their rosters, it helps to have a good length of time at home.

  • Looking to the future, what do you envision for your career at Zenith Energy, and how do you see the company evolving in the industry?

I see myself staying in a Field Service role for some time and hoping it will be with Zenith. I’m also keen to explore a dual trade.
